Alongside with fitness and lifestyle focused Mi Watch Revolve and Mi Smart Band 5, Xiaomi has also introduced its smart speaker in India. The company has launched Mi Smart Speaker which comes with built-in Google Voice assistant and features powerful 12W speaker with DTS Professional tuned sound.
It’s the first smart speaker from Xiaomi in India, and it takes on the nascent Smart speaker market dominated by Amazon Echo devices and Google Home devices. The Mi Smart Speaker is priced at Rs 3499 in India. It will be available starting October 1st exclusively through Flipkart, Mi online store and Mi Home stores. It will also be available through numerous offline Xiaomi partner retail stores across India in the coming month. As a free perk, the smart speaker comes with a one-year premium subscription to Gaana.
Sound Never Sounded this Smart
Mi Smart Speaker is a somewhat boxy shaped with a dimension of 131mm x 104mm x 151mm and weighs around 853g. Its outer layer is covered with a super-thin matte-stone black finish 0.7mm metal mesh that has precise cut 10531 sound holes which give it a premium look and also help in delivering a room full of thrilling sound experience. Adding to the aesthetics there is a light ring at the top which glows up 16million lights on your command and offers a music lighting effect (somewhat like the original Amazon Echo Dot).
Underneath the metal skin, the Mi Smart Speaker boasts a front-facing 2.5-inch full frequency 12 W speaker with 63.5mm sound driver. This unit is coupled, with the Texas Instruments TAS5805M Sound Processor that delivers high power and low distortion audio. It also comes with an advanced multi-band dynamic response control algorithms, which helps it to deliver a HiFi Sound output. More to that, the smart speaker gets professionally tuned with DTS Sound offering a crisp vocal and dynamic bass at any volume of your choice.
The smart speaker also packs two far-field intelligent mics that can accurately recognise your voice from across the room. There is also the touch panel at the top with touch-sensitive buttons to manually control the speaker. It has buttons to adjust volume, play/pause music tracks and switch-off or mute the microphone.
As said earlier, the Mi Smart Speaker comes with built-in Google Voice assistant. Thus you could speak to it in both English and Hindi (or almost in any Indian language) to do various tasks including playing songs, finding information, setting alarms, and even controlling other smart devices that have Google Assistant support.
As for connectivity, the Mi Smart Speaker comes with WiFi (both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz) and Bluetooth 4.2 (supports A2DP Music player). Thus you can toggle between the two allowing you to stream online over WiFi or stream offline with Bluetooth. You can also pair two smart speakers for the stereo sound experience. As with any smart speaker, it needs to be connected always to a power source (DC 12V/ 1.5A).
