Fitness enthusiasts among you, get in the zone. Xiaomi has launched its next-generation fitness band, the Mi Smart Band 5 or Mi Band 5 in India the rightful successor to its mega-popular fitness band Mi Smart Band 4. This time around the company has improved the existing internals including a larger display, new sports modes (including Yoga), a personal health assistant and for the first-time an all-new women health tracking.

Before getting into the features, let have a look at the pricing. Mi Smart Band 5 or Mi Band 5 is priced at Rs 2499 in India. You get to choose from Black, Teal, Purple, Navy Blue, and Orange strap colour options (the capsule remains the same black coloured). The fitness band will be available from October 1st, exclusively through Amazon India, Mi online store and Mi Home stores.

What’s changed in Mi Smart Band 5?

Mi Smart Band 5 gets a large 1.1-inch dynamic AMOLED full-touch colour-display which is almost 20 per cent increase from the Mi Smart Band 4. The display also features 126 x 294-pixel resolution, 16bit colour depth and can offer a maximum brightness of 450 nits. Under the hood, it carries 512KB RAM and 16MB of ROM or storage space. It packs an array of sensors including a high precision six-axis sensor which combines three-axis acceleration sensor and a three-axis gyroscope. It also has a PPG heart rate sensor that brings almost 50 per cent more accuracy and offers 24-hours continuous heart rate monitoring.

Mi Smart Band 5 the Xiaomi fitness band launched in India

There are about 11 professional sports mode in Mi Smart Band 5 which cover almost every fitness scenarios. The fitness band can track – Yoga, Power walking, Treadmill, Outdoor running, Outdoor cycling, Indoor cycling, Pool swimming, Jump rope, Freestyle workout, Rowing machine and Elliptical. As you may have learned, the fitness band can be used while swimming as its water-resistant up to 50 m.

With Mi Smart Band 5, Xiaomi has introduced PAI (Personal Activity Intelligence) score, which is calculated based on your gender, age, heart rate and other vital data points. It then provides suggestions for activities that help you to improve your score and eventually lets you stay active and healthy.

Women health tracking

Xiaomi has added one of the most demanded feature, a dedicated women health tracking to its Mi Smart Band 5 fitness band. You can use the fitness band to record your menstrual cycle and ovulation phases, and it can give useful reminders beforehand.

Other interesting, features in Mi Smart Band 5 include full monitoring of your heart rate, resting heart rate monitoring, 24-hours sleep monitoring including deep sleep, light sleep, Naps and REM (rapid eye movement). It can also monitor stress levels and can even offer guided breathing exercise.

Mi Smart Band 5 packs a 125 mAh battery, which according to the company can easily last for more than 14 days of daily usage. Luckily this time around, you won’t need to remove the capsule from the strap each time for charging, as it now comes with magnetic pins at the back. The Magnetic Charging unit can fully charge the fitness band in less than two hours. Finally, every data collected from the fitness band will go to the Mi Fit app the one place to set and track your fitness goals. It’s available on both Android and iOS devices.
