Samsung lifted the veil on Galaxy S8 and dreams to achieve a lot with it. The brand new device is an absolute stunner in style and performance. However, the device do have some drawbacks and the extra topping is a bit overdone. Here’s our unbiased overview on the same.

Why we felt S8 is awesome?

  1. Infinity Display, an almost Bezel-less design.
It has an incredible end-to-end screen that spills over the phone’s sides. The extreme screen-to-body ratio does help to make the phone cosy to your palms. A pressure sensitive capacitive home button and soft nav keys replace the old physical ones. This HDR premium certified display also promises a vivid viewing experience.
  2. Bixby, Samsung’s Siri rival.
Bixby understands talk(US English, US Spanish, Korean, and Chinese), text, and taps. She can see(visual search), recommend(similar to now cards), and remind. Summon her with the dedicated button and let her operate the phone for you.
  3. Iris Scanner, a defence grade security.
A cutting edge biometric authentication that not only helps you unlock the phone but also works as a part of Samsung Pass. In addition, they have the usual facial, fingerprint, pattern, password and PIN to secure the phone.
  4. Phone+, adding more features.
Phone+ is basically adding a lot more functionality to your phone with accessories and apps. You can connect, Gear 360, Gear VR, Gear Fit (Samsung Health app), Samsung Dex, and control every smart device with Samsung Connect app. The Samsung Dex is a docking station that brings Android functionality to a desktop.
  5. Industry-first 10nm chipset, Exynos 8895 or SD 835.
The S8 rocks heavy duty processors, either the Snapdragon 835 or the Exynos 8895. However, the Snapdragon 835 is limited to the US, and others are getting the Exynos 8895. The good news is that Exynos 8895 has reportedly surpassed Apple iPhone 7 Plus in Antutu score.
Samsung's Galaxy S8 Is Awesome, Yet Awful at The Same Time!

Why we felt S8 is awful?

  1. Bixby, an incomplete smart assistant.
As of now, Bixby isn’t smart enough to understand every accent. Since we have the Google Assistant, more users will prefer it. So Samsung put a dedicated Bixby button to make users use the app more often. Bixby may learn and develop, but it’s gonna take a heck of a lot of time.
  2. The fingerprint sensor, so awkwardly placed.
It’s completely out of place. While holding the phone normally,  you need to stretch your finger a bit to reach it. If you have short fingers or small palms, then you might need to use both hands.
  3. Infinity curved display, we need a new body design.
A real treat to the eyes, but does it still have the accidental edge touches?. Samsung’s palm rejection algorithm hasn’t improved a bit. The hyper-shiny aluminium chassis is a fingerprint magnet for sure. A good case with proper grip and edge coverage will aid you in both instances.
  4. 4GB RAM is ok, but 64GB ROM isn’t enough.
Even mid-range phones are offering with 4GB RAM and plenty of internal storage variants like 32GB, 64GB and 128 GB. Common Samsung, there is only about 50GB free space left out of the box for your S8. For the dual SIM variant, you have the hybrid slot and this is not the right decision for this price point.
  5. 3000mAh/3500mAh battery, really disappointing.
Seems Samsung is a bit too careful with their battery, but for a 6.2/5.8inch display a 3500/3000mAh isn’t enough in our opinion. Of course, the new chipsets and AMOLED are power efficient, but adding a few more hundreds of mAH could have easily handled the user side overloads. Samsung’s 8 point check is ensuring battery safety, but many still have the nightmares.
