The original flagship killer (vendor) has up its game and chosen to build flagship smartphones, skyrocketing the price tag. Thus there is a need for a new flagship killer and Xiaomi wants to take that crown. Betting big on “affordable flagships”, the Chinese mobile vendor has launched Redmi K20 and Redmi K20 Pro in India.

The entirely new series of Redmi phones come with top-end hardware, great camera, innovative functionalities and yet affordable to your pocket. With the new Redmi K series, you get flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, lavish amount of RAM and storage, camera setup with different perspectives, premium design and build quality and much more.

Before going further, let’s go through the pricing of Redmi K20 and Redmi K20 Pro in India. The Redmi K20 price in India starts at Rs 21,999 and that’s for the 6GB RAM and 64GB storage model. Thus the new K series sits above the Xiaom’s own POCO phone. Coming back, there is also the 6GB RAM and 128 GB storage variant of Redmi K20, which is priced at Rs 23,999.

Going to the PRO model, the Redmi K20 Pro with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage is priced at Rs 27,999. Whereas, it’s 8GB RAM with 256GB storage is priced at Rs 30,999. Redmi K20 series Specifications

Design-wise both Redmi K20 and Redmi K20 Pro shares ‘Aura Prime Design’, which offers gradient colour feel when light hits the back panel. The 3D curvature weighs just 191g and fits comfortably for one-hand usage. They both are available in Flame Red, Glacier Blue and Carbon Black colour options.

Both Redmi K20 and Redmi K20 Pro flaunts 6.39 inches FHD+ (2340×1080) Horizon AMOLED display with a pixel density of 403 PPI and 19.5:9 aspect ratio. Beneath the screen, you get the in-display fingerprint sensor. The whole front and the back part is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 5.

Under the hood, the Redmi K20 is powered by up to 2.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 processor which is coupled with Adreno 618 GPU. It’s also paired with 6GB of RAM and up to 128 GB of internal storage. However, there is no microSD card slot, if you’re planning to upgrade the storage.

The real star here is the Redmi K20 Pro, which is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor coupled with Adreno 640 GPU. It’s been paired with a combination of 6GB RAM and 128GB storage or 8GB RAM and 256GB of storage. For gamers delight, this phone comes with a double-sided heat dissipation structure made from 8 layers of graphite, thermal silica and copper foil. Thus you would get improved heat dissipation, higher frame rates and sustained peak performance while playing games.

Both Redmi K20 and Redmi K20 Pro runs on Android Pie based MIUI 10 which also packs the second-generation GAME Turbo 2.0 mode. This mode enhances graphics, reduces network delay and optimises touch latency while playing games. The triple rear camera and PopUp selfie

The camera has always been a pain point for Xiaomi’s pricer phones. But with Redmi K series, they’re gonna change that. Both Redmi K20 and Redmi K20 Pro packs the triple rear camera module and pop-up selfie front camera unit.

The triple rear camera unit includes a 48MP Sony IMX582 ultra-high-resolution sensor with f/1.75 aperture, a 13MP ultra-wide-angle camera with 124.8-degree field of view and f/2.4 aperture and the third 8MP telephoto camera with 0.6x to 2x zoom and f/2.4 aperture. There is also the Spectra 380 ISP with Computer vision built right into the hardware, which offers massive camera performance. These cameras also support Laser focus with PDAF and come with monochrome Dual Flash.

As always, the camera part is backed by AI. Like the AI Scene correction option which prevents distortion of scenes and faces. AI skyscaping mode which allows you to choose from six Sky backgrounds for your photos. The 1/2 inch large sensor along with AI algorithm helps you to capture brighter
and sharper photos at night.

To avoid the clutter from the beautiful front display, Xiaomi has opted for the pop-up selfie camera on both Redmi K20 and Redmi K20 Pro. In both devices, you get a 20-megapixel pop-up selfie camera with f2.2 aperture. This mechanical part being tested 300K times without failure and comes with emergency drop detection and protection. So, you could be sure, it won’t fail or break that fast. On additional feature to the pop-up selfie camera is it would allow you to unlock the phone with your face (Pop-Up Face Unlock mode).

Connectivity and Extras

In terms of connectivity, both Redmi K20 and Redmi K20 Pro comes with dual-SIM (Nano) supporting 4G LTE, VoLTE, 3G and 2G networks. Other connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS/ A-GPS/GLONASS/Beidou and USB Type-C port. Xiaomi is also keeping the beloved 3.5mm headphone jack in the phones. For audiophiles, the phones pack Hi-Fi DAC Audio playback at 192KHz/24-bit. It also integrates the Qualcomm WCD9340 independent audio chip for a smoother audio experience.

Powering both smartphones are a 4000mAh battery that supports 18W fast charging in Redmi K20 and 27W fast charging in Redmi K20 Pro.
