We are talking about the newly launched Xperia XZ Premium android smartphone from Sony. In addition to the super premium model, the company has also launched a slightly mid-range Xperia XZs smartphone.
Super slow motion camera
Before digging deep through the hardware, we first need to know about the latest camera innovations packed in Sony Xperia XZ Premium. According to Sony the camera so advanced it captures motion that the human eye can’t see. The camera brings tech you usually see in Sony Cyber-shot and other premium compact cameras. The mobile camera packs the new Motion Eye camera system which also features a memory stacked Exmor RS sensor. The result is 5x faster image scanning and data transfer.
Sony Xperia XZ Premium can record videos at 960 frames per second, for Super slow motion playback. With Predictive Capture, the camera starts buffering images one second before you press the shutter button. So you won’t miss any of those memorable moments. The camera comes with 5-axis image stabilisation that compensates for shaking movements in five different directions. This allows you to capture shake free, smooth videos. Display and Power
Now coming to other specification of Sony Xperia XZ Premium. The mobile keeps the same design language of its other Sony phones. The mobile comes with an exquisite glass loop surface which when turned over reveals a mirrored effect on the back. Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protects the mobile on the front and back. Adding to the design, the fingerprint sensor is integrated into the power button on the side. As with any Sony mobile, the Xperia XZ Premium is also protected against water spills and dust, thanks to the IP68 rating.
The Sony Xperia XZ Premium flaunts a 5.5-inch 4K HDR TRILUMINOS 3840×2160 display. That’s over 800 pixel-per-inch count for the gorgeous screen. So what will you be watching on the beautiful screen? Sony has partnered with Amazon to pack a selection of 4K HDR content from Amazon Prime Video.

Under the hood, the Sony Xperia XZ Premium is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, the one LG could’t get hands on for its G6 smartphone. The processor is coupled with 4GB of RAM offering industry-leading performance and enhanced battery efficiency. For storing all those stunning slow motion videos and other media contents, the mobile comes with 64GB UFS internal storage. You can further expand the storage up to 256GB using microSD card.
Connectivity and Extras
Talking about connectivity, the Sony Xperia XZ Premium packs gigabit-class super-fast connectivity with the X16 modem. It supports 4G LTE network along with VoLTE that work with all Indian 4G bands. Other connectivity option includes WiFi, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, USB Type-C charging port with USB 3.1 for faster data transfers.
The Sony Xperia XZ Premium runs on Android 7.1 Nougat and packs some Xperia Actions, Xperia tips, Smart cleaner and battery saving Smart Stamina mode. For audiophiles, the mobile comes with High-Resolution Audio playback supporting Sony’s native DSEE HX technology.
Convinced to buy one? Sony has not yet announced the pricing for the smartphone. But looking through the track record of Sony the smartphone will surely touch the 60K-70K price range. As for the available, the mobile will comes to India by June-August 2017.
Sony Xperia XZs smartphone
Well, we also have a smaller cousin to the Sony Xperia XZ Premium smartphone – the Xperia XZs smartphone. The mobile packs the same camera technology from Xperia XZ Premium, but it’s powered by Snapdragon 820 processor coupled with 4GB of RAM. The display is also get reduced to 5.2-inch full HD with X-Reality for mobile picture engine. Most of the other specification remains the same.
