They may be just rolling out in limited areas and to a limited set of customers, yet topping in most of the speed index charts. Yes, we are talking about the Indian telecom operator Reliance Jio’s broadband service called the Jio GigaFiber. According to Netflix India ISP Speed Index for October 2018, Jio GigaFiber topped the speed chart by offering the fastest streaming speed for Netflix videos.

Jio GigaFiber offered its customers an average playback speed for Netflix videos at 3.48 Mbps. Which is also an improvement over its previous recorded speed of 3.41 Mbps in September 2018. Thus for the last two month, Jio’s broadband service has slowly started disrupting the Indian broadband sector.

Coming back, on the second spot of Netflix Indian ISP Speed Index for October 2018, we have the 7 Star Digital with an average 3.19 Mbps streaming speed. Taking the third spot is Spectranet with its average speed of 3.14 Mbps.

Airtel has dropped further to the fourth position with an average speed of 3.10 Mbps. They’re followed by ATRIA Convergence Technologies with an average speed of 2.89 Mbps.

Ranked at 15th position, Tata Communications sits at the bottom of the chart with an average speed of 1.75 Mbps. India’s largest wired broadband provider BSNL is in the 13th position with an average speed of 2.13 Mbps.

So what’s Netflix ISP Speed Index? It a list of average prime-time bitrate for Netflix content streamed to Netflix users during a particular month. The prime time here been calculated by the average bitrate of Netflix content in megabits per second (Mbps) streamed by Netflix users per ISP. Do note that speed indicated in the Speed Index is not a measure of the maximum capacity of an ISP. It only a calculation of speed in streaming Netflix content via the ISP.
