The Income Tax Department of India has launched an instant e-PAN allotment facility. This feature is currently in beta stage and is completely free of cost for a limited period of time. The procedure for e-PAN application is paperless by making use of Aadhaar e-KYC. So let us see the requirements and procedures to get an instant e-PAN from the IT department of India.

How To Apply For Instant e-PAN
  1. Make sure you don’t have previously allotted PAN card (including physical ones).
  2. You need valid Aadhaar, Aadhaar reg mobile number, and scanned signature.
  3. Visit – incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in, look for Instant e-PAN and select apply.
  4. Read the guidelines for filling your name and details in the application.
  5. Fill in your details carefully and complete the e-KYC procedure using OTP.
  6. Now upload the scanned signature and complete the e-PAN application.
  7. You’ll receive a 15-digit acknowledgement number to your mobile/email.

Even though the application procedure is fairly simple, the mismatch in the details can affect the process. Once the application is submitted, the IT department will allot a Permanent Account Number(PAN) for you. You will also receive an intimation SMS/email for the same. Without much delay, you will be able to download the e-PAN from the official portal.

How To Download Instant e-PAN
  1. Visit –incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in , click Instant e-PAN and select check status.
  2. Enter the 15-digit acknowledgement and OTP for the status or for downloading e-PAN.
  3. Please note that no physical PAN card is dispatched, only e-PAN as PDF is available.
Remarks

The new instant e-PAN facility by the IT department will surely save some time and effort. Moreover, there is less than a month left to file income tax returns for individuals. But, this facility is only for resident individuals and not for Hindu Undivided Family (HUF), firms, trusts and companies etc. However, they have specially mentioned in the portal that this service is for a ‘limited period of time’.
