Bharti Airtel, India’s top telecom provider now offering SMS discounts on the New Year blackout days (31st December and 1st January) to compensate for technical outage they haves faced on western region of India 3 days before.
One of the SMS from Airtel to users states, “This New Year, enjoy sms discount on 31st December 2011 and 1st January 2012. Standard SMS rates will not apply on these 2 days.”
Couple of days before Airtel faced a bad network outage in the Western region as a result of a fire in Airtel’s central POP (point of presence) location in Malad, Mumbai. Airtel has been working hard to restore the connection problems, and according to them they have almost solved the issue with Voice calls, SMS and Data services.
The outage has really caused lot’s of damage to Airtel relationship with the customers. During this age of MNP, customers have the power in their hands to instantly change the network and go to other operators. Hoping Airtel with the decision on SMS discount’s on Blackout days would make their customers happy, as this is the time of year, when people would like to send lots of SMS to their loved ones. So by offering discounts on SMS Airtel have tried to regain the trust from the customers.
