It may have not become an instant hit on the first release, but wants to take their wearable technology to the next level. Samsung has unveiled the successor of not so popular Galaxy Gear – the all new Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo. Importantly both the smart watches runs on home-made Tizen OS ditching Android.
Samsung Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo has a lightweight design with premium finishes with later a lite version of the Gear 2. Gear 2 is equipped with a 2 megapixel camera with its position changed to the main body instead to strap, while Gear 2 Neo lacks the whole camera module. The camera can shoot Full HD (1920×1080) videos with auto focus.
Customers now has a choice over the strap color with options to express their mood or outfit. They can choose from Charcoal Black, Gold Brown and Wild Orange for Gear2 and Charcoal Black, Mocha Grey and Wild Orange for Gear2 Neo. The home screen background, clock face and font are customizable to the users liking.
Both smartwatch have a 1.63 inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 320×320 pixels. They both powered by a 1GHz dual-core processor with 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage. They are also IP67 certified for dust and water-resistant along with addition noise cancellation technology. It runs on open source Tizen OS made by Samsung and Intel in conjunction with other tech companies.
As it’s a wearable device it got a host of sensors, including heart rate sensor, a pedometer and various exercise trackers, accelerometer, gyroscope. With an embedded IrLED sensor users can control electronic products such as TV, settop box through WatchON Remote application. It allow users to accept or ignore incoming calls and messages, and providing instant notification options based on a user’s activity and habits. It can also function as a standalone music player and has support for wireless speakers over Bluetooth.
On the battery side both the devices got an 300mAh Li-ion battery that can run the Gear’s for 2-3 days on typical usage and maximum 6 days on low usage.
Both Samsung Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo will be available around the world starting from April, but pricing yet not been revealed.
