Samsung Galaxy S20 FE aka Fan Edition launched with 120Hz Display, Triple Camera

The original Samsung Galaxy S20 or the mighty Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra may be little pricer to your pocket (don’t want to get started with the super-premium Galaxy Note20 Ultra). In today’s Unpacked for Every Fan event, Samsung has officially unveiled the Galaxy S20 FE. The smartphone is essentially a toned-down version of the flagship series, yet it surprisingly feature-rich. It packs powerful internals, tripe rear camera array, AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate and closely follows the design language that matches the Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Note20 series.

Watch out OnePlus, Samsung is coming back for your now.

Samsung Galaxy S20 FE price starts at $699 or roughly Rs 51,500 for the 5G model. Yes, there would be a 4G model of the phone with a much lower price tag. The phone will be available in mostly three variants – 6GB RAM + 128GB storage, 8GB RAM + 128GB storage and 8GB RAM + 256GB storage. The phone is pretty much available in all glazing colour options including – Cloud Red, Cloud Orange, Cloud Lavender, Cloud Mint, Cloud Navy and Cloud White.

The company has yet to reveal the pricing and availability of the phone in India. However, pre-orders for the phone has already been started on Samsung’s online store.

Samsung Galaxy S20 FE Specifications and Features

As said earlier, the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE closely follows the design language of elders Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Note20 series. The body features a premium textured haze effect that minimizes fingerprints and smudges. The phone is also IP68 rated for water resistance.

The Galaxy S20 FE flaunts a 6.5-inch flat FHD+ Super AMOLED Infinity-O Display with (1080×2400 pixels) 120Hz refresh rate. Here the Infinity-O means you are getting a super small punch-hole in the screen which houses the front camera. Thanks to the 120Hz refresh rate you get a super smooth scrolling and fast touch response. There’s also an optical fingerprint sensor (rather than supersonic), underneath the screen. The whole front part is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 3.

Under the hood, the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE is powered by octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor, that’s for the 5G variant of the phone which may not land in India. Here we would probably be getting the octa-core Exynos 990 processor with the 4G variant. This mobile processor is coupled with up to 8GB LPDDR5 RAM and up to 256GB UFS 3.1 internal storage. You can further expand the storage up to 1TB using microSD, as the phone comes with Hybrid SIM slot. The phone runs on One UI 2.0 based on Android 10 operating system and the company gurantess three major OS updates.

Pro-grade, triple-lens camera

The Samsung Galaxy S20 FE features a triple camera array at the rear. This includes a combination of 12-megapixel wide-angle primary camera with Dual Pixel autofocus, OIS and F1.8 aperture, another 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera with 123-degree FOV and F2.2 aperture and an 8-megapixel telephoto lens with F2.4 aperture. This camera array can offer a combination of 3x Optical Zoom and 30x Super-Resolution Zoom.

For selfies, the Galaxy S20 FE packs a 32-megapixel camera module with F2.2 aperture. It also comes with autofocus support. As always there is a bunch of AI-based optimisation and tricks with the camera app on the phone.

Connectivity and extras

Coming to connectivity, the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE supports 5G Sub6 / mmWave (optional), 4G LTE, VoLTE, WoWiFi, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax 2.4G+5GHz, Bluetooth5.0, USB Type-C and NFC. It also supports Samsung Pay with the help of NFC and MST technology. For audio, you’re getting UHQ 32-bit and DSD64/128 support. Additionally, the phone comes with stereo speakers sound optimised by AKG and surround sound with Dolby Atmos technology.

Finally, the Galaxy S20 FE packs a 4500mAh battery with support for 15W fast charging and wireless charging.
