The much-anticipated announcement from RIL Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani is out. At the Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) 42nd Annual General Meeting (AGM) 2019, the boss has unveiled his plan for the next wave of disruption in the fixed broadband, DTH, IoT (Internet of Things), gaming, voice calling and video calling industries. The biggest news, however, is the official commercial launch date of Jio GigaFiber or simply, the Jio Fiber – on 5th September 2019 (exactly on the third anniversary of Jio telecom’s commercial launch).
After rounding up around 340 million subscribers on its 4G-only telecom network, the telecom operator is pushing for the next set of consumer business, the fixed wired broadband service. Jio GigaFiber which is being tested in major Indian cities for more than a year now has able to gather more than 15 million registration and currently being piloted in 5 lakh homes. With the launch of Jio Fiber, the telco plans to reach 20 million residences and 15 million business across 1,600 Indian towns.
Jio Fiber broadband service Plans and Tariff
Right to the point, Reliance Jio Fiber plans would start for Rs 700 per month and will go all way up to Rs 10,000 per month. Thus if you’re a home user or kirana store owner, or startup or small/medium business owner or even a corporate, Jio Fiber got your connectivity needs covered.
“meant to suit every budget, every need, and every segment” – Ambani said during the event.
Jio Fiber broadband service would also come bundled with a landline connection. As you guess, the voice calls to any Indian telecom operator (both landline or mobile) will be free “forever”. As for speed, the lowest Jio Fiber plan would come with minimum 100Mbps broadband speed (upload and download). You won’t be stopped there, as you could choose plans with 1Gbps broadband speed or more.
- The commercial launch of Jio Fiber on 5th September 2019.
- Broadband speed ranges from 100Mbps to 1Gbps.
- Monthly Jio Fiber plans starts at Rs 700 and goes alway up to Rs 10,000.
- Coming to 1,600 Indian towns.
- Bundled with
- Jio Home phone (landline) with free unlimited voice calling to any mobile/landline in India.
- Lowest international calling rates.
- Jio 4K Set-Top box
- Premium subscription to OTT services.
Coming back to the landline connection bundled with Jio Fiber service, the Jio Home phone would offer one of the lowest Talktime rates for international calls. An unlimited voice calling pack to US and Canada was also announced for Rs 500.
Jio 4K Set-Top Box
Another product that comes bundled with Jio Fiber service would be the Jio set-top box, which would look to replace your DTH connection. The 4K capable set-top box has been designed to accept TV signals from LCO (local cable operators) partners (remember the Hathway and DEN acquisition by RIL). Thus the last line of Jio Fiber network will be laid down by your local cable operators and Reliance Jio will offer its services over it. A win-win situation for LCO’s who ‘re finding difficult to compete with DTH providers.
The Jio Fiber plan will come bundled with premium video-on-demand and OTT services. Like with a simple monthly subscription with Jio Fiber, you could enjoy premium access to videos and TV shows from Hotstar, Netflix, Prime videos, Eros now and much more.
Premium Jio Fiber customers would also get the first-day-first-show service, where you would able to watch new movies the same day it releases on movie theatres. The service would debut in the middle of 2020.
Jio Fiber Welcome Offer
Ready to signup for Jio Fiber?, Reliance Jio has announced a new Jio Fiber Welcome Offer for its new customers. This offer would succeed currently running Jio GigaFiber Preview Offer. Under the Jio Fiber Welcome Offer, subscribers who are opting for annual Jio Fiber plans or Jio Forever Plans would get a 4K/HD television and a 4K set-top box for free.
Registration for Jio Fiber starts on 5th September 2019 and you would be able to register for the same via Jio.com website and MyJio app.
For startups and SMBs in India, Reliance Jio would offer Jio Fiber service and other connectivity, cloud infrastructure at an affordable rate or for free in some case. The telco has partnered with Microsoft for accelerating digital transformation in India. A startup would able to register for a custom-designed package directly on Jio.com.
For bigger business, Reliance Jio would offer connectivity, productivity, and automation tools along with Jio Fiber at Rs 1,500 per month.
During the event, Jio showcased some of its services like the JioCall service. With Reliance Jio Fiber, Jio set-top box and a TV you could start and participate in a group video call.
Another service announced was Jio GigaFiber IoT (Internet of Things) which aims to connect IoT devices in India like smart TVs, smart speakers, wearables and smart appliances. The company aims to connect/serve to around 1 billion IoT devices when it commercially launches on 1st January 2020.
