The much awaited day for Jio lovers has finally arrived. The pre-booking of JioPhone aka India Ka Smartphone begins today August 24th, 2017, at 5:30 PM. The detailed specifications of the JioPhone have also been revealed as a part of the pre-booking. Let’s see what the JioPhone is capable of and how to book one.
The JioPhone was announced on July 21st, 2017 during the 40th AGM of Reliance Industries. The key note of this announcement was that JioPhone will costs you Rs 0. This was a good news to rural subscribers who were dying to try the Jio 4G VoLTE but lacked the budget. Even though Jio is offering it at effective zero price, you have to pay a three-year refundable security deposit of Rs 1500. However, this move may have some adverse effects and COAI called it Clever Marketing.
The JioPhone runs on KAI OS which is a port of Firefox OS, and is powered by Spreadtrum or Qualcomm SOC. It comes preloaded with all the Jio apps, however, users might miss favourite apps like Whatsapp. It also sports a 0.3MP front camera for video calls, TV connectivity via Jio media cable, FM Radio and torch. The devices support True 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi hotspot(disabled), GPS and expandable storage.
JioPhone comes with 22 major Indian language support, and voice commands enabled in Hindi and English. We are yet to experience the features of Jio Voice Assistant. The phone will also pack digital payment feature “Tap and Pay“, which will be enabled by a future update.
The phone costs Rs 0, but you have to pay a security deposit of Rs 1500, which will be refunded after 3 years once the phone is returned. The users can opt for Rs 153 per month affordable unlimited data tariff plan. You will get unlimited voice calls, unlimited SMS and unlimited data benefits with FUP speed limit of 0.5GB or 500MB per day. Or the TV accessory cable package similar to Jio Dhan Dhana Dhan Offer costing Rs 309 per month with daily FUP 1GB. Also, there are two affordable sachets, a weekly plan for Rs 54 and a 2-day plan for Rs 24.
The pre-book day is 24th August 2017, at 5:30 PM. You need to be ready to beat the rush. As per the sources, you can place multiple pre-book orders. However, each pre-order may cost you around Rs 500 while the remaining amount of Rs 1000 needs to be paid at the time of delivery. You can also pre-book the phone from your nearest Reliance Digital Store for the same amount.
