India Govt Withdraws Ban on Bulk SMS and MMS with Immediate effect

The happiest moments for SMS sender’s in the country are back, as India Government decided to withdraw the 15 days ban on bulk SMS and MMS, just a day before the earlier stipulated deadline of August 31.

Recently only India Government banned sending bulk SMS, MMS for 15 days in the country, as a step taken after a reports of threatening SMS/MMS being sent to North Eastern students in Bangalore, Mumbai, Hydrabad, Pune and other cities. Which in effect has led to exodus of North Eastern people from certain parts of the country.

On Thursday, Government removed the restriction on SMSs through mobile phone with immediate effect which were earlier imposed to check circulation of objectionable content. Earlier the number was limited to five SMSs per day on above August 17, 2012, then the situation was reviewed on August 24 and the number was increased from five SMS to twenty SMS/MMS per day.

Government has directed Department of telecom (DOT) to release an immediate directive to all telecom operators in the country to completely withdraw the ban on SMS and MMS.
