Prasar Bharti, the public service broadcasting company behind Doordarshan want to make a massive comeback in the digital era. The best way? they are going to partner with on-demand video streaming services like Hotstar, Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. Under this partnership the channel will air online it’s treasure trove TV serials from the 1980’s and 90’s.
Some of these programs like Malgudi Days are already available on YouTube. However, some popular TV shows were only made available to purchase from their official website. Still, we were missing a big part of the nostalgic collection like Bharat Ek Khoj, Circus, Vikram Aur Baital, Mirza Ghalib etc.
“Some material from the archives has been put on our official website for sale. The next step is to be able to syndicate some of the popular content and make them available through on-demand platforms like Hotstar, Netflix and Amazon Prime,” said Prasar Bharati CEO Shashi Shekhar Vempati to Mail Today.
Doordarshan’s massive premium content chest would also become the lifeline for on-demand video streaming services. Hotstar, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and others are looking for good quality contents to attract users. They can’t get any better content for Indian audience than the classic hits which has a nostalgic relation to their minds and hearts.
