India’s oldest media and popular entertainment company, Zee New Media, a digital arm of the Zee Entertainment Enterprise (ZEE) launched Ditto TV which is the first Over-The-Top TV (OTT) distribution platform in India.It offers live TV channels and video-on-demand Video (VOD) content to consumers on their mobile phones, tablets, laptops, desktops, entertainment boxes and connected TVs. OTT involves content delivery via the internet, over the existing network, rather than the closed network of conventional cable, satellite and cable operators. The venture is a tie-up between Siemens Communications and Zee, and it will soon be catering to the UK, UAE, USA, New Zealand and Australia along with India.
Punit Goenka, MD and CEO Zee Entertainment Enterprises said on the launch “The OTT category presents a huge potential and adds an exciting new dimension to Zee’s business model. Ditto TV was created to bring wireless broadband digital services to customers across the world. I believe that Ditto TV will transform the way content is consumed, and monetised and we are thrilled to be at the helm of this revolution. The company is targeting one million subscribers in the first phase and has also planned significant investments in new media and the OTT product. Zee aims to garners 10 percent of its total revenue from Ditto. And all this will be achieved with no advertising to start with.”
Ditto TV is also be available as an application in Apple’s app store, Android Market , Symbian Nokia Store and BlackBerry Application World. Content can be viewed on-screen resolutions, like 1280×800, 1024×600, 800×480 (Portrait & Landscape) and its best optimized for 3G/Wifi networks.Its also available for Windows and Mac PC users.
Ditto TV currently have a total of 21 channels, it have already partnered for content with Multi Screen Media (Sony Entertainment Television), TV Today Network, BBC, and ZEE. Ditto TV expects to offer a complete set of 50 channels shortly. Another amongst industry firsts, Ditto TV offers features such as adaptive streaming, an elaborative electronic programme guide, a content recommendation engine and an elegant user interface, all of which will be integral to enhance the user experience. Moreover, it allows for complete customization, both in cost as well as choice of content. Different price points offer absolute control of channel selection, with prices starting as low as Rs 49.
