Xiaomi India has partnered with content providers in India to add streaming services in their Music and Video apps. You might have already noticed these apps on your Xiaomi phones, but it had only offline functionality. But, now it will be able to access thousands of online freemium contents with these apps.

Xiaomi decided to make this move after they found that 70 percent of Indians use music apps in their smartphone. Moreover, Hungama CEO said that over 127 countries around the world watch the Indian cinema and listen to Indian music. Such is the passion and creativity of Indian entertainment industry. Even though there are other streaming services like Gaana, Hungama, Xiaomi thought we deserve more.

Xiaomi India Adds Online Streaming Services To Mi Music And Video Apps

So Xiaomi have partnered chiefly with Hungama for music and Hungama play, Sony Liv etc for video contents. To add to this, these apps have been revamped to enhance the streaming and usage experience.

Mi Music App

The brand new Mi Music app from Xiaomi was demonstrated in the event by their product manager, Sudeep Sahu. The Mi Music app contents will be mainly from Hungama, which is South Asia’s largest digital entertainment organization. With the new Mi Music app, you have over 10 million songs across 13+ Indic languages and international languages including English and Spanish. These will include premium contents from latest albums and you can choose from multiple genres. You can also download these contents for offline play, but that will cost you a subscription fee of around Rs 899.

Another feature integrated into the Mi Music app is the Dynamic Lyrics. The app will show you lyrics and the song will follow it line by line. You can also scroll to the favourite part of the lyrics, tap it to listen again from that line.

In the next few months, they will add more music videos, personalized recommendations, themes, and more contents. The Mi Music apps thus bring the world of music to your palms. The app is already available for download from play store, you can also signup for the beta build to try out more features.

Mi Video App

The updated Mi Video app is now a full-fledged online video streaming player. It can also play offline videos of different formats like AVI, MP4, MOV, MKV, FLV, TS, RMVB, 3GP, MPG, and three new ones viz MKA, MPEG, M2TS. It also has features like multilingual subtitles, multiple audio tracks, and private folders.

The streamable content will be from various providers, but to begin with we have the Hungama Play, Sony Liv and Voot. More partners like Sun Nxt, Alt Balaji, Zee5, Viu, TVF, Flickstree will join the show soon. You will have about 500,000 hours of HD content from 15 Indic and other international languages.

The Mi Video app has also undergone a lot of changes to provide the seamless user experience. You can use quick tap or swipe gestures for play seek, toggle volume and brightness. The app also has one tap to cast to a wireless display that supports DLNA or Miracast. More features like personalized recommendations, floating PIP player, language and genre filter, playback speed options will come in future updates. The app is currently in beta stage, a full-fledged app can be expected by May.
