Xiaomi has just announced a concept phone, the Mi Mix with an impressive 91.3 percent screen to body ratio at their event in Beijing, China. The ceramic unibody phone has a Snapdragon 821 chip, a 16mp rear camera, a 5mp shooter at the front (housed at the bottom bezel) and a 4400mAh battery.

The obvious stellar feature is the 6.4-inch bezel-less display which pretty much covers the entire front fascia of the phone sans the bottom lip which houses the front-facing camera and the sensors. The screen has a resolution of 2040×1080 equating to 362ppi. The phone is similar to the Sharp Aquos crystal but with a much larger display.

The higher specced version has 6GB of LPDDR4 RAM, 256GB of UFS 2.0 storage and is also 18K Gold Plated. While the lower spec version has 4GB RAM and 128 GB of storage in tow. Both use a piezoelectric acoustic system for the headset, which vibrates the metal frame to make the sound. The proximity sensor is also replaced by an ultrasonic distance sensor. It also has all the common features like a fingerprint sensor and NFC support.

Xiaomi has been accused of being highly influenced by  designs and features from other manufacturers, especially Apple. With the Mi Mix, Xiaomi is projecting itself to be on the forefront of innovation with an almost bezel-less display smartphone. The phone is designed by renowned designer Philippe Starck.

The Mi MIX 4 GB RAM version with 128 GB of internal storage will cost RMB 3,499 (approximately Rs 35,000) and RMB 3,999 (approximately Rs 40,000) for the 6 GB RAM/256 GB/18 karat gold version.

The Mi Mix will go on sale in China on November 4th. It’s highly unlikely that Xiaomi will sell it outside China. India being a major driver in sales for the company, we may see the phone land on our shores soon. Xiaomi also launched the Mi Note 2 at the event which will be coming to India.
