A smartphone that’s built solely to take beautiful and natural selfies. The Chinese mobile vendor Xiaomi want you to capture some gorgeous selfies and has introduced a completely new series of selfie-centric android smartphones in India. First in the series is the Xiaomi Redmi Y1 featuring 16-megapixel selfie camera with selfie-light.
The product is endorsed by non-other than the beautiful Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif. Other than taking great quality selfies, the Redmi Y1 packs a mid-range hardware. This includes Snapdragon SoC, dedicated SD card slot, up to 4GB of RAM, HD display and 4G VoLTE support.
Convinced already? Redmi Y1 with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage variant will retail at a price tag of Rs 8,999. Whereas, there is a bigger memory variant with 4GB of RAM and 64GB storage priced at Rs 10,999. Both variants of Redmi Y1 will be available to purchase exclusively via Amazon India. The first sale of the mobile will happen at 12 PM on 8th November 2017. You will also able to purchase the device from Mi.com, Mi Home stores and offline retailers across India.
16MP selfie-light camera
As a selfie-centric smartphone, the Redmi Y1 boasts an ultra-high 16-megapixel front camera. What makes it unique is the Pixel Binning of sensors which helps to reduce the noise in pictures. It also features f/2.0 large aperture, 76.4-degree wide-angle lens and soft LED selfie-light flash.
Back on the device, the mobile has a 13-megapixel rear camera. It features f/2.2 aperture, Phase Detection Auto Focus (PDAF) and LED flash support.
Design and Performance
Boasting a premium look and feel, the Redmi Y1 has a brushed metallic finish with rounded edges. For colour choices, you get to choose from gold and dark grey. The mobile flaunts 5.5-inch HD display covered with 2.5D curved glass on top. Under the hood, the mobile is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 octa-core processor paired with 3GB or 4GB of RAM.
For storing your selfies and other media contents, the Redmi Y1 carries either 32GB or 64GB of internal storage. With a dedicated card slot, you can expand the storage up to 256GB using microSD card. The phone runs on Android Nougat covered up in the latest MIUI 9 skin.
For connectivity, Redmi Y1 comes with 4G LTE that support every Indian telco 4G bands. You also get full 4G VoLTE support for making HD voice and video calls. Other connectivity options include 3G and 2G networks, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.2.
For extra security, the Redmi Y1 carries a fingerprint sensor placed at the back of the device. Finally fuelling the whole device is a 3,080mAh battery. It can offer around 32 hours of talk time, 10 days of standby time and 10 hours of continuous video playback.
