Twitter unveiled a major redesign of their entire website, desktop and mobile apps on Dec 8, which includes a simplified design to make twitter more engaging and easier to connect with others. The new redesign is rolling out slowly and visitors to Twitter’s website should start seeing the new look during the next few weeks.

Twitter also updated their desktop software TweetDeck, to be consistent with the new redesign. Its one of the first major alteration in design done to TweetDeck after it was brought by Twitter some years ago. Twitter updated their both iOS (iPhone only for now, iPad coming soon) and Android mobile apps to be consistent with the new redesign. It’s now easier and faster to see the information that matters most to a visitor. Immediately access favorite features from the lefthand side. Photos, videos and conversations are embedded directly in Tweets so users can see the whole story at a glance.

The new design features top 3 tabs now, Home, Connect and Discover, the most basic function of twitter. The new tab menu is the same across all devices. So users will get the same experience on mobile and desktop—anywhere, anytime. A simpler design lets users get what they need faster. Easily view Twitter stats, get suggestions on who to follow and see trending topics—all with one click. New design allow users to see Tweets from all the accounts users follow. Tweets can now expand to show more information such as replies, retweets and embedded photos and videos. Direct Messages are now handled from the Profile, itself. The ‘Me’ tab is where you send and recieve DMs.

The redesign is an attempt to “bridge the gap between the awareness of Twitter and the engagement on Twitter, Roughly 40 percent of Twitter’s more than 100 million active users log into the service without ever posting a “tweet” — messages limited to no more than 140 characters. That isn’t a problem, because those people still actively use the service, as they enjoy the information that they get from the people and companies that they are following.” said Twitter CEO Dick Costolo

You can see the redesign immediately on the just-updated versions of mobile.twitter.com, Twitter for iPhone, and Twitter for Android. You can get early access on your computer by downloading and logging into Twitter for iPhone or Twitter for Android.
