Telecom Operators to Deactivate Inactive Customers

Indian Telecom Operators has decided to deactivate the mobile number of customer who have not used their service for more than 60 days and they have planed to allocate the mobile numbers that got deactivated to new customers at the earliest. This move has been taken by the telecom operators due to DoT’s (Department of Telecommunication) tough guideline for allocation of new number series based on subscribers in VLR thus creating shortage of new mobile numbers for this telecom companies.

Airtel and Vodafone India has already started to implementing this guidelines from DOT. According to a report, Aircel seems to be having most number of inactive user base of about 45%, Aircel says it will follow whatever guidelines the government comes up with. Idea Cellular and Reliance Communications seems to be having maximum percentage of active customers of more than 90%. Both companies are already following a strict policy for deactivation unused connections.

This guideline has been implemented because the Department of Telecommunications’ stringent guideline for allocation of new number series based on subscribers in VLR (visitor location register) has created acute shortage of numbers, for any telecom company,Vodafone India said in a statement.

According to a report, more than 25% of the allotted mobile numbers for 89core mobile subscribers are lying unused. With explosive increase in the mobile subscriber base, most of the mobile number series of operators are being used fast and its decreasing at a faster phase. So to resolve this issue, DOT has provided new guidelines to all telecom operators to screen all the mobile numbers allotted by them and deactivate any unused mobile numbers. Also DOT has asked to allocate this unused numbers to new users at the earliest.
