It seems we have a new entrant to the price war on 2G and 3G mobile internet rates, Tata Docomo has slashed the 2G and 3G mobile internet data rates by around 90 % for pan-India GSM customers. Unlike other telecom operators who have only reduced the 2G data rates, Tata Docomo has gone one step further and slashed the data rates 3G mobile internet also by 90%.

The new reduced data rates is applicable to all GSM customers, who are used to access 2G & 3G mobile internet on pay-as-you-go basis, and also on the regular 2G & 3G data packs. Subscribers browsing internet through 2G and 3G will be now charged 1 paise per 10 KB as opposed to the earlier data rates of 10paise per 10 KB. For those on 2G can do online recharge with Rs 126 to get 2GB of data usage for one month, Rs 149 to get 2.5GB of data usage for 30 days and Rs 249 to get 3GB of data usage for 60 days. For subscribers who are exceeding the free data usage limit will be charged now with only 1 paise per 10 KB.

After Vodafone, Airtel and Idea, Tata Docomo Cuts 2G and 3G Data rates by 90% to 1p/10KB

For those on 3G, can do online recharge with Rs 255 to get data usage of 2 GB for one month and post free usage will be now charged with only 1 paise per 10 KB.  The new reduced data rates for 2G and 3G mobile internet plans will come into effect from 1st July 2013 and available to pan-India Tata Docomo’s GSM subscriber base.

The mobile internet price war started with Vodafone India slashing 2G mobile internet data charges by 80%, which was closely followed by Bharti Airtel slashing its 2G data charges by around 90% and Idea Cellular cutting 2G data charges by 90% to 2p/10KB in eight telecom circles. In addition Bharti Airtel the sole 4G operator in India also slashed the data charges for 4G mobile internet plans by 30% with plans starting now at Rs 450.
