Supreme Court cancels 122 2G licences and asks TRAI to Allocate New 2G licences within 4 Months

As a judgment on 2G spectrum scam, Hon’ble Supreme Court has cancelled 122 2G licences given to telecom operators pan India, which was granted to 11 companies, after January 2008.

Stating that the licences were granted in an arbitrary and unconstitutional manner to this telecom operators. Supreme Court has asked TRAI to make a new recommendation for the grant of 2G licences. Also supreme court has ordered Govt, that the spectrum allocation to be done within next four months. Till that time, the telecom operators can use the service.

Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy reacted to the supreme court decision by saying “the country could be justifiably proud of Supreme Court on the 2G verdict. “2G is a big scam and it is a collective failure of the government“.

Supreme Court cancelled the 2G license of following telecom companies Tata telecom, Idea, Uninor, Loop Telecom, Sistema Shyam ( MTS), Etisalat DB , S Tel and Videocon. Court has also imposed a fine of Rs 5crore on three telecom companies, which offloaded their shares after getting the license.
