The phablet market discovered and enriched by the Samsung’s Galaxy Note series has a new competition in place, the Sony Xperia Z Ultra – featuring one of the world’s slimmest and largest 6.4 inch Full HD display, powerful 2.2GHz quad-core CPU, 8 megapixel shooter carrying the Exmor RS sensor and runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean mobile OS carrying a price tag of Rs 46,990.

Sony Xperia Z Ultra is more than a smartphone with its huge 6.4 inch Full HD TRILUMINOS display with X-Reality for mobile that’s more comparable with Sony’s high-end HDTVs having a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. On design wise the phablet is ultra slim and portable with its 6.5 mm body, reflective glass surface and at 212 grams weighs. The body is made tougher which is IP55/IP58 certified providing waterproof, dust resistant and tough tempered glass coated with an anti-shatter film.

On the hardware side Xperia Z Ultra is powered by 2.2 GHz Qualcomm MSM8974 Quad Core processor with 2GB RAM. It carries a 8 megapixel camera on rear with Sony Exmor RS for mobile image sensor and 16x digital zoom, along with it is the 2 megapixel camera on front. The phablet comes with 16GB of internal memory that can be expandable up to 64GB using a microSD card. Under the hood it got a powerful 3,000mAh battery with a Stamina mode that can support up to 16 hours.

On the software side it runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean mobile OS which can be soon upgradable to the latest Android 4.3, if Sony has to be believed. In addition one can write on the screen using pencil, pen or a capacitive stylus thus making it more portable.

Sony has partnered with one of India’s top telecom operator Vodafone India to offer promotional bundled 3G plan offering 8GB of 3G data usage for two months. With the price tag of Rs 46,990 the phablet is on the expensive side, but still you are a getting a gorgeous true Full HD display with a powerful hardware under hood.
