Finally the next flagship Galaxy device or the fifth generation of Galaxy S series smartphone family has been announced by Samsung at Mobile World Conference held in Barcelona – the Galaxy S5. It comes with advanced camera, fast network connectivity, dedicated fitness tools with host of sensors and enhanced device protection features.

Samsung Galaxy S5 features a 5.1 inch FHD Super AMOLED display with a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. It’s powered by a 2.5GHz Quad core CPU or a 8 core Exynos processor depending on the region along with 3GB of RAM. It comes in 16GB or 32GB internal storage and support microSD card up to 64GB.

Galaxy S5 got a 16 megapixel camera on its back that offers superior camera functionality along with enhanced menu and front-end user interface that makes easy to take, edit and share photos. It features the world’s fastest autofocus speed up to 0.3 seconds and supports advanced High Dynamic Range (HDR). The Selective Focus feature allows users to focus on a specific area of an object while simultaneously blurring out the background, eliminating the need of a special lens kit to create a shallow depth of field (DOF) effect. On the front it got a 2 megapixel camera that supports HD video recording.

On the connectivity side, Galaxy S5 offers the most advanced LTE experience supporting a wide range of LTE frequency with LTE Category 4 standard and carries the fifth generation Wi-Fi 802.11ac and 2X2 MIMO. It also supports 3G/2G networks, Bluetooth v 4.0, NFC and IR blaster.

On the software side it runs on the latest Android 4.4.2 KitKat with newest TouchWiz UI over the top. It’s also IP67 certified making the smartphone water and dust resistant.

Samsung Galaxy S5 carries a host of sensors mainly for focusing on the fitness category. It got the S Health 3.0 app that keep track of once personal fitness along with additional tools including a pedometer, diet and exercise records, and heart rate monitor that can be recorded by placing users finger on the inlay where the LED flash sits. Other sensors include accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass and barometer. The device also got a fingerprint sensor on the home button that can be activated by swiping it, providing a secure, biometric screen locking feature.

Samsung Galaxy S5 will be available in 150 countries including India from April 2014, but pricing has not be revealed.
