Reliance Industries (RIL) subsidiary Reliance Jio Infocomm (RJIL), the sole telecom firm in India to have nationwide permits for 4G services is all set to expand its staff strength by nearly three-fold this year, as it gears up for 4G launch in the country.

Reliance Jio to Triple Headcount as it gears up for 4G launch

Reliance Jio which started with 700 staff a year back in Navi Mumbai, now have around 3,000 professional staffs. It’s planning to triple the headcount to add 7000 more staffs this year, expanding their professional staffs count to 10,000, as it aims to launch 4G service early next year.

From less than 700 professionals a year back…the Reliance Jio team has grown rapidly to a national footprint of over 3,000 professionals today. And we estimate that over the next year we will grow the team further to a national strength of nearly 10,000 professionals,” said Mukesh Ambani, RIL Chairman and Managing Director while addressing company’s 39th Annual General Meeting.

Earlier this year Reliance Jio partnered with Anil Ambani’s Reliance Communication, to share latter’s fibre-optic network which will serve as the backbone for the 4G network. Reliance Jio has so far invested around Rs 18,000 crore in the telecom business, with majority going for acquisition of 4G spectrum license. Reliance Industries is said to make massive investments exceeding 1.5 trillion rupees across its five business areas – energy exploration and production, petroleum refining and marketing, petrochemicals, retail, and 4G services.

Our impatience to reach our goal demands a sense of urgency, but not careless haste. Together with our partners, we have charted an ambitious plan for the next 12 months, and we at Reliance Jio foresee making rapid progress over this period towards launching our services across India. Our 4G Reliance Jio initiative will build scale based on technological superiority, affordability and providing an unparalleled range of services that do not exist today” said Mukesh Ambani.

Earlier this year Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd has signed a consortium with International telecom players to establish the Bay of Bengal Gateway (BBG) submarine cable system, to provide a robust and future-proof backbone for rolling out its state-of-the-art 4G services in India.
