It seems your voice calls from Reliance Jio mobile connection to other telecom operators won’t be passing through that smoothly.

The Reliance Jio Interconnect Saga has come to a new turn as the operator has come down heavily criticising India’s top three telecom operators. Jio claims that hardly any new point of interconnection (POIs) capacity has been made operational by any of the three incumbent operators – Airtel, Vodafone and Idea Cellular. Due to this over 10 crore call failures per day is happening between Jio and three incumbent operators.

You may remember that there have been several meetings held earlier this months with Jio and incumbent operators. Which resulted in Airtel, Vodafone and Idea Cellular in allocating new POIs to Jio.

Now according to Reliance Jio, there has been hardly any new allocation of the point of interconnection from this three incumbent operators. In the last 15 days period Airtel has only opened just one POIs, Vodafone allocated 5 POIs, whereas Idea Cellular provided just 3 POIs.

When compared to the provided POIs, Reliance Jio currently has a requirement of operational interconnection capacity of 4,000 – 5,000 E1s per operator for the three incumbent operators.

There have been press releases and media statements by some of the incumbent operators about positive intent to augment interconnection capacity in the last few days, however, this has not been followed with action. Considering the current working E1s, including the proposed augmentation by the incumbent operators, would still be far lesser than what is required to meet QoS parameters, the more concrete action is warranted from the incumbent operators,” said RJIL in a statement.

Do note that as per TRAI regulation on quality of service, the POI between telecom operators should not affect more than 1 call in every 200 calls made.
