After expanding its partnership with Samsung to launch the I&G (Infill & Growth) Project, Indian telecom operator Reliance Jio has announced another partnership at an event in MWC 2017. This time with networking giant Cisco. The operator has partnered with Cisco to build an All-IP digital service platform in India, which will also be the world’s largest All-IP converged network.
The collaboration will expand Jio’s existing multi-terabit capacity. With the All-IP converged network Jio can offer high-speed data, mobile video, VoLTE, digital commerce, media, cloud, and payment services. Currently, Jio network has a consumption of more than 1 exabyte of data per month. Thanks to the extended free promotional offers, monthly user data consumption is 40 times, the highest in the world.
“As part of our journey in fulfilling the aspirations of the nation to be a key transformational agent in Digital Adoption and Leadership, Cisco has been a great partner for in building this highly scalable cloud-centric All-IP Digital Services Network Platform meeting unprecedented data growth.” said Mathew Oommen, president, Reliance Jio.
The Jio All-IP digital platform is a result of co-innovation around product and services between the two companies. The platform is built on Cisco’s Open Network Architecture and Cloud Scale Networking technologies featuring IP/MPLS, spanning areas including Data Center, Wi-Fi, Security and Contact Center solutions.
Reliance Jio’s All-IP network is built for the ever-increasing volumes of data. The operator has already laid more than 300,000 KM of fibre optics across India. It has built India’s largest cloud data centre to build platforms for applications and vertical solutions. The operator has direct interconnection with global carriers and content providers enabling low-latency and high-quality experience for users in India.
“We share the vision with Reliance Jio for an open, programmable infrastructure to simplify, automate and virtualize core network functions in order to digitise faster,” said Yvette Kanouff, senior vice president, general manager, Service Provider Business, Cisco.
Cisco is building the simplified, automated and virtualized network platform of the future based on industry-leading software, systems, silicon and services. This enables service providers, media and web companies worldwide to reduce costs, speed time-to-market, secure their networks and sustain profitable growth.
