Xiaomi India today unveiled the highly anticipated successor to Redmi Note 4, the Redmi Note 5 series. The latest iteration however has two variants viz the Redmi Note 5 and the Redmi Note 5 Pro. Among them, the Pro edition is the one with sizeable changes including a huge upgrade in the camera department. Let’s find out what other improvements have Xiaomi made in this descendant.
Display and Performance
Redmi Note 5 Pro flaunts a 5.99-inch full-screen display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. To achieve this they got rid of the capacitive buttons and replaced it with on-screen soft buttons. Still, there is a slight increase in length, but width and thickness are kept almost same as that of a 5.5-inch phone. However, this has helped to increase the display area by 12.5 percentage. It also has a 2.5D curvature along with rounded corners for aesthetics and comfort. The whole unit is housed inside an unimetal body which comes in Gold, Rose Gold, Blue and Black colours. Fingerprint security is also available with a rear mounted sensor on the aluminum body.
Under the hood is the Snapdragon 636 SoC making this the first device to be powered by it. The SD 636 comes with an 8-core Kryo 260 CPU clocked to 1.8GHz and an Adreno 509 GPU. The new FHD+ display, advanced photography, performance gain, enhanced gaming, faster modem speeds, quick charging, and battery life were realized with this SD 636 SoC. You can also choose from three different RAM-ROM combinations viz – 3GB+32GB / 4GB+64GB / 6G8+64GB. The whole hardware is managed by Android N based lightning fast MIUI 9 ROM.
