We have a new all-rounder around the corner to replace the ageing, but still quite popular Redmi Note 4. The Chinese mobile vendor Xiaomi has officially debuted its fifth-generation Note series in India – Redmi Note 5. Well, the company is already touting it as the “India’s all-rounder”.

Priced in the budget-segment, the Redmi Note 5 has the proven Snapdragon 625 SoC under the hood. It also features a big and almost 6-inch (precisely 5.99-inch) Full HD+ display, dual SIM slot with a dedicated memory card slot, fingerprint scanner and full 4G VoLTE support.

So, how much does Redmi Note 5 cost? the mobile has been competitively priced to suit our budget-spendings at Rs 9,999 for the base 3GB RAM and 32GB storage variant. There is also a higher-memory variant with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, which will retail for Rs 11,999. Both these variants will be available exclusively via Flipkart and Mi store. First flash sale for the mobile will happen on 22nd February 2018 at sharp 12 noon. As a freebie, the company is packing an Ultra SIM case free with the mobile.

Design and Performance

Keeping up its premium design the Redmi Note 5 has a sleek profile with a full-screen display at the front along with rounded display corners on the sides. The corners of the phone are reinforced to increase durability and makes it stiffer to hold in one hand. For colour choices, you get to choose from Black, Gold, Rose Gold and Blue colours.

Redmi Note 5 flaunts a large 5.99-inch (15.2cm) full HD+ (2160 x 1080 pixels) display with an full screen aspect ratio of 18:9. Covering up the display is a 2.5D glass with rounded display corners. The company has also ditched the capacitive buttons for on-screen buttons.

Under the hood, the Redmi Note 5 is powered by a 2.0GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor paired with either 3GB or 4GB of RAM and Adreno 506 graphics. For storage, the mobile carries 32GB or 64GB of internal storage. You can further expand the storage up to 128GB using a microSD card which got its own dedicated card slot. The phone runs on Android Nougat based MIUI 9 OS which packs lots of customization options.

Camera and Power

Redmi Note 5 offers vibrant photos with its 12-megapixel rear camera unit, which has a larger 1.25um pixel size and F2.2 aperture. It also comes with support for PDAF, which offers faster focusing. On the front, for selfie addicts, the mobile carries a 5-megapixel camera with a built-in selfie-light and Beautify 3.0 mode. The front camera can also shoot videos at full 1080p on 30fps.

Coming to connectivity, Redmi Note 5 supports 4G LTE which works smoothly with every Indian telcos 4G band. You also get full support for 4G VoLTE for making HD quality voice calls. Other connectivity options include 3G and 2G network support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and USB2.0. For better security, there is a fingerprint sensor placed on the back of the device.
