Muscling in its dominance and bringing more performance to the mid-tier mass market smartphone segment, chip maker Qualcomm has announced three new Snapdragon mobile platforms. This includes one new member in the Snapdragon 600 series, the Snapdragon 632 mobile platform and two in the Snapdragon 400 series – the Snapdragon 439 and Snapdragon 429 mobile platforms.

The new mobile platforms have a more efficient design, which helps in pumping in higher performance, better graphics and better battery life. These new processors also pack artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities.

Snapdragon 632 Mobile Platform

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 Mobile Platform is an upgrade to its popular Snapdragon 626 and Snapdragon 630 SoC. What you get from the new mobile platform or processor is a 40 per cent higher performance than the predecessor. It uses a combination of the Qualcomm Kryo 250 CPU and Qualcomm Adreno 506 GPU. Thus offering better gaming performance, 4K video capture, and artificial intelligence. It supports fast LTE speeds with its X9 LTE modem which also supports carrier aggregation. It also packs the dual 4G/dual VoLTE capability.

Qualcomm expands its Mid-Tiers with Snapdragon 632, 439 and 429 Mobile Platforms

The Snapdragon 632 mobile platform can support either dual cameras at 13MP each or a single 24MP single-camera. The display on the phone which embeds this mobile platform can scale up to FHD+.

Snapdragon 439 and 429 Mobile Platforms

Both Snapdragon 439 and 429 mobile platforms are especially suitable for the budget/mid-tier smartphones. It’s built with FinFET process technology advancements which improve CPU performance and power efficiency by up to 25 per cent. The Snapdragon 439 packs an octa-core CPU and Adreno 505 GPU for much faster graphics rendering. It can support either dual cameras at 8-megapixel each or 21-megapixel single camera. Phones with this chipset can support FHD+ display easily.

The Snapdragon 429 packs an Adreno 504 GPU that offers 50 per cent improvement in graphics rendering. It can also support either dual cameras at 8-megapixel each or a 16-megapixel single camera unit. Phones with this chipset can support the HD+ display.

Both these mobile platforms come with an overload of artificial intelligence capabilities which enhances the camera, voice, and security experience.

You could find smartphones running Snapdragon 632, 439 and 429 mobile platforms starting in the second half of 2018. We could expect Xiaomi, Motorola, Oppo and Vivo to embrace the new chipset on their newest smartphones.
