Starting from 3rd May 2015, you will be able to retain your mobile number across any India states, cities or telecom circles, as India Government has approved the Telecommunication Mobile Number Portability regulation put forward by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).

According to the latest draft released by TRAI (www.trai.gov.in), an amendment has been made to the telecommunication mobile number portability regulations offering inter-service area MNP or simply saying pan-India MNP. Through this users can retain their mobile number and switch operators anywhere in India.

Some of the main highlights of the amendment include –

  • Pan–India Number Portability, where user can retain their existing mobile number and switch operators anywhere in India.
  • In case of disconnection of a ported mobile number, the 90 days period when the mobile number remains unutilized will now be reduced to 60 days, thus allowing effective utilization of the mobile number.
  • In case of Postpaid mobiles there will be 15 days grace period given by the recipient operator to the subscriber to pay all debts with his/her account. The Donor operator then will need to intimate to the Recipient operator about the same so that Recipient operator does not disconnect such mobile number.
