Want a change from the usual mapping service from Google and most importantly want the maps to work offline without an internet connection – head over to the Nokia’s HERE Map. Nokia has announced the public beta availability of its popular HERE map mobile app for Android devices.

Nokia HERE offers location and mapping service similar to Google Maps, but also offers offline navigation, public transport maps and directions, live traffic feed, location sharing and more unique features.

Some of the unique featured by Nokia HERE when compared to Google Maps –

  • Offline navigation & Downloading – Nokia allows you to download the full maps of an area, city or even a country and use it offline without an internet connection. One can also get the interactive maps and turn-by-turn voice guidance for offline use. Nokia allows maps to download and use offline for nearly 100 countries which also include India. One can download HERE maps of individual Indian states like Karnataka, Delhi, Kerala etc.
  • Public transport maps and directions for over 800 cities in over 40 countries.
  • Live traffic information on roads for more than 40 countries including India.
  • Collections – One can personalize their maps by saving/collecting their favorite places, location or routes.
  • Share location – HERE allow one to share their current location with family and friends in real-time.

Nokia HERE Maps is available as beta for Android device (running Jelly Bean or higher), so it’s currently not available on Google Play. If you want to try out the HERE maps, download the APK directly from HERE website (HERE.com/Android) and side-load to your device. You make sure to tick the Unknown source box under security setting on your Android device before installing.
