Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL) Govt owned telecom service provider and India’s first 3G provider, has launched an affordable 3G data plan offering 100GB of data transfer for 6 month, for its prepaid customers in Delhi circle. According to the newly launched prepaid Half Yearly Data Plan, priced at Rs 4999 customers will get 100GB of 3G data usage with a validity of 180days. This new plan has been implemented w.e.f 26.01.2012. One catch is that customer need to pay in advance of Rs. 4999 for 100 GB 3G data usage which is valid for 6 months.
The newly announced MTNL 3G data plan seems to be the most cost effective and affordable plans in India. With this plan customers are getting 1GB of 3G data for Rs 50 (Rs 49.99 actually :)), which seems to be the lowest when compared to other telecom providers charging around Rs 500 to Rs 900 for 1GB of 3G data. That’s cheaper than the GPRS/EDGE price we are paying now for most providers. Hope other telecom providers will provider similar plans and will help in mass 3G expansion in India.
