Along with the mid-range Moto G6 series, the Lenovo backed mobile vendor Motorola has unveiled the next-generation of budget-friendly Moto E series of android smartphones. This includes the Moto E5, Moto E5 Plus and Moto E5 Play smartphones. Moto E series has always been Motorola’s most affordable android offerings. Now the company has enhanced this series with much-needed hardware upgrade, yet kept on the affordable pricing tag.

The Moto E5 series sports premium-build panels along with Snapdragon SoC, bigger battery, tall 18:9 screen, fingerprint security and stock android experience at an attractive low price point. All the three smartphones in these series feature curved glass panel design. There is also water-repellent coasting, which protects your phone from accidental spills and splashes. The fingerprint reader in these phones is now located within the Motorola logo.

Moto E5 specification and features

Moto E5 boasts a premium look and feel, thanks to the arched back and a rounded glass front. It flaunts a 5-7inch HD+ IPS LCD (1440 by 720) Max Vision display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. Under the hood, the mobile is powered by a 1.4GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor paired with 2GB of RAM and Adreno 308 GPU. The mobile carries 16GB of internal storage, which can be further expanded up to 128GB using micoSD card.

Moto E5 android smartphone

On the photography department, the Moto E5 sports a 13-megapixel rear camera. It features phase detection autofocus (PDAF), f/2.0 aperture and LED flash support. For selfie addicts there is a 5-megapixel front-facing camera with flash support.

Coming to connectivity, the dual SIM supported Moto E5 boasts 4G LTE network along with VoLTE. Other connectivity options include 3G and 2G network support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and NFC. For enhanced security, there is a fingerprint scanner at the back. Finally fuelling the mobile is a massive 4000mAh battery which comes with 10 W rapid charger.

Coming to the upmarket, Moto E5 Plus is everything Moto E5 but with an upgraded internals. The mobile flaunts a 6-inch HD+ IPS LCD (1440 by 720) Max Vision display with an 18:9 aspect ratio, which is sort of overkill to the lower-density display. Under the hood is the more powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 octa-core processor coupled with 3GB of RAM. It carries 32GB of internal storage which can be expanded up to 128GB using microSD card.

Moto E5 Plus android smartphone

On the photography side, the Moto E5 Plus boasts a 12-megapixel rear camera, It features PDAF, Laser Autofocus, f/2.0 aperture and LED flash support. For selfie lovers, there is an 8-megapixel front camera featuring f/2.2 aperture and selfie flashlight support. Connectivity options remain the same as that of Moto E5. Fuelling the phone is a massive 5000 mAh battery that almost offers 1.5 days of battery life in a single charge. Also to charge the battery much faster, there is a 15W TurboPower charger included in the box.

Moto E5 Play is the most affordable smartphone in the range. It flaunts a smaller 5.2-inch HD+ IPS LCD (1440 by 720) Max Vision display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. Under the hood is the 1.4GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 425/427 processor paired with 2GB of RAM. It carries 16GB of internal storage, which you can further expand using microSD card.

Moto E5 series water repellent

Coming to photography, the Moto E5 Play boasts an 8-megapixel rear camera featuring f/2.0 aperture and LED flash support. On the front, the mobile comes with a 5-megapixel camera with selfie flash support. Connectivity options remain the same as that of Moto E, but with a lack of NFC support. Fuelling the mobile is a 2800mAh interchangeable battery which comes with 10W rapid charger.

Talking about pricing, Moto E5 has been priced at $185 (around Rs 12,500), whereas the top-end Moto E5 Plus will retail for $210 or around Rs 14,000. Motorola has not announced the pricing of Moto E Play, but considering its specification, its likely to be priced below the 10K price bracket. Currently, there are no words on the Indian pricing and availability. However, considering Motorola’s track record in India, we could expect the Moto E series to launch in India in the coming weeks.
