When Microsoft announced in the Build event that Windows Phone 8.1 will be free for smartphone vendors building devices with screen sizes under nine inches (23 cm) for the consumer market, small mobile vendors jumped to this bandwagon. As a first entrant India’s local mobile vendor Micromax has introduced their first Windows Phone devices – Canvas Win W092 and Canvas Win W121, both running the latest Windows Phone 8.1.

Build for the masses and to taken on the budget-friendly Androids, both Canvas Win W092 and Canvas Win W121 Windows Phone devices are made affordable with a price tag of Rs 6,500 and Rs 9,500 respectively.

The more affordable Canvas Win W092 got a 4-inch IPS WVGA display and powered by a 1.2Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 quad-core processor coupled with 1GB RAM. It got a 5 megapixel camera on back with LED flash and a 0.3 megapixel camera on front. It comes with 8GB internal storage which can be expanded up to 32GB using microSD cards. The Windows Phone device supports Dual-SIM with connectivity options like 3G, 2G, WiFI and Bluetooth.

The more expensive Canvas Win W121 which is priced at Rs 9,500 got a 5 inch HD IPS display, powered with the same 1.2Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 quad-core processor coupled with 1GB RAM. It got a better 8 megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a 2 megapixel front facing camera. It also comes with 8GB internal storage which can be expanded up to 32GB using microSD cards. The Windows Phone device is equipped with proximity, gravity, and light sensors, an accelerometer and Dual-SIM capability. On the connectivity side the smartphone supports 3G network along with 2G, WiFi connections and Bluetooth. For a premium touch the device also carries a leather finish back panel.
