Carrying a copy of your identity proof or document showing you’re that person, is one of the prerequisites while booking a train ticket on IRCTC and during the train journeys. In any case, you forgot to carry one, then you will be fined heavily from the railway TTEs.
To ease up your train journey and basically eliminating the need a carrying a physical identity proof, Indian Railway now accepts mAadhaar as a valid ID proof on train journeys. This comes as a relief to people who usually forgot to take the same ID proof filled at IRCTC while booking a train ticket. This also helps those who are not very fond of carrying a physical copy of their identity proofs like Aadhaar card, PAN card, voter ID, driving licence etc.
mAadhaar or Mobile Aadhaar app is developed by (Unique Identification Authority of India) UIDAI. It provides an interface to Aadhaar number holders to carry their demographic information viz. Name, Date of Birth, Gender and Address along with photograph as linked with their Aadhaar Number in a smartphone.
You can also lock your biometric data, generate T-OTP(time-based OTP), share your profile via QR code and e-KYC information as a zip file with this app. Most of the features are also accessible offline, and one of them is to have a copy of your Aadhaar in digital form on your mobile.
“It is desired that the mAadhaar when shown by the passenger on his/her mobile after entering the password should be accepted as proof of identity for undertaking the journey in any reserved class” as per an order from Director Passenger Marketing, Railway Board.
So, how to use mAadhaar during your train journey? While booking a train ticket on IRCTC website, make sure you provide your Aadhaar details in the option for identity proof. While travelling in the train you will have to show the Aadhaar details via the mobile app after unlocking it’s with your profile password. Railway TTEs will fully accept it as a valid identity proof.
