Bombardment of AI in one’s most personal thing, smartphones. The South Korean mobile vendor LG has taken the wraps off its flagship android smartphone for 2018, the LG G7 ThinQ. Its main focus is the loaded up AI features, along with powerful hardware which includes Snapdragon 845 SoC, edge-to-edge display, dual 16-megapixel rear camera and 4G VoLTE support.

Smarter With AI

Before we begin talking about the LG G7 ThinQ’s hardware, let’s learn about the embedded artificial intelligence part. The mobile will be the first device (along with Pixel phones) to get the upcoming Google Lens feature. Google Lens is one of the coolest features which debuted recently in Google Photos.

LG G7 ThinQ comes with a dedicated AI button below the volume buttons. On a single tap, it will instantly launch Google Assistant, while double tap would bring up Google Lens. If you’re not physically able to trigger the buttons, you could still activate Google Assistant via its Super Far Field Voice Recognition (SFFVR). Just like the Smart Speakers, the mobile can recognize voice commands from up to 16 feet away and even in a crowded situation.

Design, Display and Performance

This time around, LG has a new design aesthetic for the G Series. Unlike the previous years LG G6, the LG G7 ThinQ sports a polished metal rim. The front portion is dominated by the full-screen display. Both the front and the back side is covered in Gorilla Glass 5 making it ultra durable. The mobile has also been IP68 rated for dust and water resistance.

LG G7 ThinQ boasts a 6.1-inch QHD+ FullVision Super Bright display with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. The screen can brighten up to a 1,000 nit and can display 100 percent DCI-P3 colour gamut. It also got six different viewing modes like Auto, Eco, Cinema, Sports, Game and Expert. If you need more control over the screen, then you could even adjust the screen temperature and RGB levels individually. Well, it also got the not so popular iPhone X style top-notch. However, you could customise the styles, or even get it completely blacked out.

Under the hood, the LG G7 ThinQ is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 mobile platform paired with 4GB of RAM. For storing all your media files, the mobile carries 64GB of UFS 2.1 based internal storage. You could further expand the storage up to 2TB via microSD card. The phone runs on latest Android 8.0 Oreo OS out-of-the-box.

Camera Skills and Connectivity

LG G7 ThinQ sports a dual camera setup at the rear. You get a combination of 16-megapixel Super Wide Angle (107-degree) primary lens with F1.9 aperture and a 16-megapixel secondary lens with F1.6 aperture. Accompanying it is the AI CAM which offers 19 shooting modes for intelligence-optimised shots. There is also the “Super Bright Camera” mode” which uses a combination of pixel binning and software processing to automatically improve the brightness of the photo during low-light conditions. For selfie addicts, the mobile packs an 8-megapixel 80-degree wide-angle front camera featuring F1.9 aperture.

For audiophiles out there, LG G7 ThinQ packs Boombox Speaker, which essentially uses the internal space of the mobile as a resonance chamber to deliver deep bass. When you place the phone on a solid surface, it then uses its resonance chamber as a woofer to amplify the bass effect even more. The phone also offers DTS:X to deliver virtual 3D sound for all content and up to 7.1 channel audio with earphones. Just like LG V30 series, the mobile is also equipped with Hi-Fi Quad DAC.

As for connectivity, LG G7 ThinQ comes with full support for 4G LTE, VoLTE, 3G and 2G networks. Other connectivity options include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0 BLE, NFC and USB Type-C port. There is also a fingerprint scanner placed at the back of the device along with face unlock security option. Finally, fuelling the device is a 3000mAh battery which supports Quick Charge 3.0 and wireless charging.

With just a word saying “coming days”, LG has not yet revealed the actual pricing or availability of LG G7 ThinQ in India. We could expect it would launch in India during the month of May-June 2018.
