LG has gained new-found appreciation as a great phone maker, in large part due to the Google Nexus 4. LG has continued to make a strong case for its devices since then and has now released the D802 G2. Available in two versions, 16GB and 32GB, the phone packs in a host of features that club in the same elite phone bracket as the Samsung Galaxy S4 and the iPhone 5.

There’s nothing adventurous about the core exterior of the LG D802 G2. It’s a standard bar type device and bears a somewhat close resemblance to the Nexus 4. The plastic unibody features rounded corners and top edges and feels very sturdy. The most distinctive element of the G2’s design is the volume rocker switch the power button sandwiched in the middle that sits almost flush on the back of the phone.

LG G2 (D802) with intuitive rear-key placement and Powerful Hardware [Review]

The LG D802 G2 features a large 5.2 inch Corning gorilla glass touchscreen that is very responsive. The stunning screen is one of the main selling points of this phone. It offers the same 1080×1920-pixel resolution as most of its high-end Android rivals and the pixel density is a great 424 pixels per inch. The display is sharp and bright, and if you tend to watch a lot video or do a lot of gaming, you might appreciate the slightly larger size of it.

The LG D802 G2 possesses a 13 megapixel camera on the back. It shoots 1080p video at 60fps and can be launched quickly by pressing and holding the volume down key. On the front is a 2.1-megapixel camera and it too can shoot video at 1080p, but at 30fps. We found the camera on the LG G2 to be quite a pleasant snapper. The photos we took were colour-accurate and the camera app seems to do a pretty good job of setting everything up for you.

The phone runs Android’s Jelly Bean 4.2.2 and also on board is a range of software features added by LG. The features that proved most convenient and intuitive during general use were KnockON, which allows you to double tap the phone’s display to turn the screen on and off, and Answer Me, which allows you to adjust the settings so you can answer calls simply by raising the ringing phone to your face.

Inside the G2 is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800 processor with a 2.3GHz quad-core chip along with 2GB of RAM — a promising lineup of specs, which lived up to expectations during testing. The phone also has a 3000mAh battery which ensures that the phone can multitask and run for hours at end. The phone excels at multitasking and we experienced absolutely no lag at all.

The LG G2 is a brilliant phone. The features and performance of the phone are absolute top draw and this is a top of the line phone that holds its own against the iPhone 5 and the Samsung Galaxy S4.
