Taking on the heat from Samsung’s recently announced Galaxy Round, LG Electronics (LG) officially unveiled LG G Flex – world’s first “REAL” curved smartphone. Featuring a vertically curved design with 6 inch Plastic OLED (POLED) display, world’s first curved battery, a self-healing coating on the back cover, 2.26 GHz Quad-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 CPU and an entirely new user experience (UX) making full use of the curved form factor.

LG G Flex comes under the premium G series and carry over most of the premium features along wth it. It features a 6 inch display, that’s world’s largest Plastic OLED (POLED) display developed and mass-produced specifically for smartphones. The ultra-thin, ultra-light flexible POLED display and curved OLED panel are built on plastic substrates instead of glass, giving it unique shape and durability. Another unique feeature of the display is that it contains all three sub-pixels – red, green and blue – in one pixel.

With the vertically curved design, LG has innovated front and back of G Flex to built-in unique features. The curvature arc of the smartphones is optimized to deliver improved voice and sound quality with reduced distance between one’s mouth to the microphone when the device is held against the ear. It also features the Rear Key button similar to the LG flagship device G2, through which you can control volume, can use camera and more.

LG G Flex carries a 3,500mAh curved battery designed using Stack & Folding technology, which reduces the physical stress on the battery pack when in the curved form and provides better stability and performance. On the back cover LG has applied a self healing coating that has the ability to recover from scratches. On inside, LG G Flex is powered by a 2.26 GHz Quad-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 CPU with 2GB RAM and 450MHz Adreno 330 GPU. It carries a 13 megapixel camera on back and a 2.1 mega pixel front facing camera. It got a 32GB internal storage and has LTE, HSPA+, 3G and GSM network connectivity.

On the software front it runs on Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2 with a new user experience that take advantage of the curved form factor. It comes bundled with QTheater app that gives user quick access to photos, videos and YouTube right from the lock screen, Dual Window for multi-tasking, Swing Lockscreen that alters the image on the lockscreen depending on how the G Flex is held, KnockON, Guest Mode and Plug & Pop.

LG has not announced any launch date and pricing for the smartphone, but we can expect it by Q1 next year (2014).
