After selling more than 25 million units in less than one year, Reliance Jio has announced an upgraded version of its original JioPhone. Well, it’s been called the JioPhone 2.

More than a feature phone, the second-generation JioPhone 2 comes with significant improvements in the overall look and feel. In addition, internal hardware components have also been upgraded to support faster 4G LTE speed and other advanced features.

JioPhone 2 Specifications

JioPhone 2 design reminds us of the old Blackberry phones featuring physical QWERTY keypad. However, along with the QWERTY keypad, you also get the four-way navigation key at the top and a centre button to activate the Jio’s virtual assistant or Google Assistant. The phone flaunts a 2.4-inch QVGA display.

The telecom operator has not revealed the processor behind the JioPhone 2, but it would be paired with 512MB of RAM. For storage, the phone comes with 4GB of internal storage, which you could upgrade to 128GB using microSD card. Coming to photography, the phone comes with a 2-megapixel back camera and a VGA front-facing camera.

JioPhone 2 runs on KaiOS operating system which seems to be getting more traction from all major tech companies including Google and Facebook. Recently Google announced support for its Google Assistant on JioPhone and now it’s bringing YouTube app to the platform. Facebook and WhatsApp are also rolling out its app for the platform.

Talking about connectivity, JioPhone 2 will support dual SIMs and it won’t be locked to Jio’s network. Thus, essentially you could put other telecom operators SIM on the second SIM slot. The phone will support LTE Band 3, 5 and 40 along with 2G band – 900/1800. The phone comes with LTE Cat4, which allows faster download speed of up to 150 Mbps on Jio 4G network. It also supports both VoLTE and VoWiFi for HD voice calls. Other connectivity options include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and NFC. There is also FM radio support which you could play on the loud mono speaker on the phone.
