If you are still afraid to use your debit card, credit card or net banking while shopping online or booking railway tickets online, then IRCTC got plans for you. The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation has started cash-on-delivery or pay-on-delivery (PoD) service for train tickets bookings.

Under the IRCTC pay-on-delivery service you can book train tickets online and then pay for it at the time of delivery. The train ticket will be delivered straight to your doorstep. You can then make payments for the tickets through cash. The PoD service will be available as a payment option on both website and mobile app of IRCTC.

IRCTC starts cash-on-delivery for train ticket bookings

The pay-on-delivery train tickets will encourage people who usually book at railway reservation counters to move to online medium. It will save in their cost and effort to reach the reservation counters. As for the general public, it will reduce the rush in the railway reservation counters.

  • During the tatkal time, that’s between 8 AM to 12 PM, you will not be able to book tickets.

You can choose to book train tickets 60 days before your planned date of travel. You still have to register with IRCTC (if you are a new customer) and tender either Aadhaar card or PAN card to avail PoD payment option. As for charges, there will be Rs 90 plus service charge for all train ticket bookings up to Rs 5000. For train ticket bookings more than Rs 5000, you will get charged flat Rs 120 plus service tax. If you refuse to accept the ticket or request cancellation before delivery then you will be liable to pay the cancellation and delivery charges.
