The iPhone brand has catapulted into one of the absolute must-haves for people across regions and demographics. Apple under Steve Job went from strength to strength – introducing the game changing iPhone in 2007. The phone has since been seen evolved greatly and the latest addition to the iPhone stable is the iPhone 5s.

From 5 to 5s

iPhone 5 was the first phone apple put out under Tim Cook’s stewardship. While the phone did incorporate some new elements like a new operating system, a bigger screen and a better processor, the phone received a fraction of the accolades the iPhone 4S got.

Enter the iPhone 5s – launched barely a year after the iPhone 5, Apple looks to claim top spot in the high competitive mobile segment with the addition of some new innovative and quite possibly, game-changing features.

The New Stuff

The launch of any Apple product is intensely scrutinized; and interest levels in the iPhone 5s reached fever pitch in the second half of the year. The design of the iPhone 5s seems virtually identical to its predecessor. But the one of the most talked about features lies beneath the home button. New to the iPhone 5s is a fingerprint scanner that unlocks your phone without the need of a pass code. The phone is also available in a new colour – champagne gold. The old black and white colours are still available of course. Apple launched iOS 7 with the iPhone 5s. It’s the first makeover of the operating system since its launch in 2007. Jonathan Ive, the brains behind the design of the iPod, Mac and the iPhone is credited with the intuitive design of iOS 7. iOS also adds features like Control Centre to the interface. The Control Centre is a pull-up control bar that offers many of the features you find in Android’s notifications bar.

The iPhone 5s uses a next-generation A7 chip. Apple claims it’s more than twice as fast as the A6 chip used in the iPhone 5. It’s also the first phone in the world to use 64-bit system architecture. And it supports OpenGL ES 3.0 which is a graphics platform standard that ensures the iPhone 5s will offer significantly better visual effects.

What the Fuss is all about

It’s an iPhone after all. The iPhone has become one of the most popular mobile devices in the world. The iPhone has continuously evolved from its inception in 2007 – in many ways, it represents the apex of mobile technology. Apple for long had garnered a loyal base of followers; but now everyone wants an Apple device. They’re some of the best designed devices on the market and are stupidly easy to use. Apple may have hit a rough patch with the iPhone 5 but it looks to be making amends amidst a strong comeback in the mobile segment with the launch of the iPhone 5s.

Summary

Overall, don’t expect revolutionary changes or additions to the iPhone 5s from the iPhone 5. It looks more-or-less the same and the screen size hasn’t changed either. However, it comes with a bunch of improvements that offer undeniable, worthwhile improvements that’ll make the phone more of a pleasure to use day-to-day. It’s not a flashy upgrade, but it is a classy one.
