India’s third largest telecom operator Idea Cellular has announced simplified data pricing across all available technologies. To be clear, this will allow you to make open market recharges of 1GB and above data packs across 2G, 3G and 4G without any differential rates. This unified price points will roll out to pan-India mobile subscribers starting 31st March 2017.

Idea’s simplified data pricing will ensure data recharges across all technologies are available at the same price point. A customer can choose the recharge price basis usage and volume available in the pack, without having to worry about the platform the customer’s device is logged in,” said Sashi Shankar, Chief Marketing Officer at Idea Cellular.

Presently, users have no clarity over the different recharges available across 2G, 3G or 4G technologies. Usually, you end up buying separate data recharges for 2G, 3G, or 4G networks which are available at different price points. However, with the unified price point, your recharge for data plans above 1GB will be treated equally whether you are owning a 2G, 3G or 4G device.

Idea Simplifies Data Pricings, Offers Same Price Points for 2G, 3G, and 4G Recharges

Do note that the operator will be offering the unified pricing only for data plans of 1GB and above. You still need to do separate recharges for data plans below 1GB. Product categories like sachets and freedom packs will also see unified pricings by the end of March 2017. The operator also plans to revise 2G, 3G and 4G data packs to reflect the unified pricings which will be announced sometime this month. We expect these data packs to be much cheaper to compete with rival telcos.
