Idea Cellular, India’s third largest mobile operator, has extended its 3G services to Thiruvananthapuram and Nedumangad (Kerala). The 3G services are already operational in Kozhikode, Thrissur, Palakkad, Kannu, Malappuram, Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta and Kollam.

Mr Dinesh Arora, District Collector, flagged off the services by making a video call to Dr Sachidananda Kamath at Welcare Hospital in Kochi.

“Post the launch, Idea subscribers will get an opportunity to experience high-end data services such as video conferencing, Idea Mall application store, mobile TV, video on demand, and high-speed Internet browsing with ease and convenience of use at affordable rates,” said Ramakrishna B, chief operating officer, Kerala, Idea Cellular.

Idea’s national 3G footprint now covers over 400 towns and the company is planning to cover 750 towns by mid 2011, and 4,000 towns by the end of Fiscal Year 12.

Idea’s 3G services are now available in nine circles: MP, Gujarat, HP, UP West, UP East, AP, Kerala, Haryana, besides Maharashtra & Goa.
