Ever wish you could capture your candid golden moments, Google Clips won’t let it fade away. This is a wireless smart camera that was unveiled during the Google event on October 4th held at San Francisco. Let’s acquaint this new personal photographer and his skills in detail.

Google Clips

Juston Payne, a Google Product Manager, introduced Google Clips to the world. This new product from Google is all about photography, which can capture the essence of your candid moments. When you have this new smart camera, you don’t need a second photographer on duty waiting to press the shutter button at just the right moment. The first edition is specifically designed with parents and pet owners in mind so they won’t miss any moments like spontaneous smiles, first steps or tricks.

Meet Google Clips, A Smart Camera That Captures Little Big Moments

Google Clips has a 12MP sensor with f/2.4 aperture, 130-degree wide-angle lens and 1.55 µm pixel size which captures at 15FPS. In short, it’s a great camera with high-performance lens, a powerful image sensor, and shutter button, but that’s not what this camera is all about. Google Clips has machine learning AI skills that capture the right moment and detects faces. For this camera, the AI software is the core and it keeps learning stuffs using machine learning algorithm. Clips has a square shape measuring 54x54x36 mm and comes with a clip stand weighing 60.5 g as a whole. This makes it ultra portable and you can carry it around in your pocket.

It can act as a handsfree camera, or you can attach or set it anywhere to discover new perspectives. Now comes the matter of privacy, it looks like a camera and an indicator light so looks less creepy after all. It looks for stable shots and records 7-second clips without sound. Just like any point and shoot, nothing leaves your device until you decide to save and share it. You can save them as a motion photo or choose any frame to save as a high resolution still to Google Photos. It also has 16GB of internal memory and can work 3 hours straight with smart capture. Google Clips comes in two-tone white and teal colour and connectivity options include WiFi, Bluetooth and USB-C port.

Remarks

Google Clips is something new, it is never a replacement for GoPro or security camera. However, it does have some security features like lens occlusion detection and alert. It requires Google Clips app running on a compatible device, viz Pixel, S7, S8, or iPhone 6 and up. The new Google Clips will come with a price tag of $249 and will be available soon. Hope you enjoyed the write-up, Peace!
