Access the Free Encyclopedia – Wikipedia on your Aircel Connection for Free

Get lots and lots of information about anything from the world’s biggest free encyclopedia – Wikipedia on your mobile for free. One of India’s emerging telecom operator Aircel has partnered with Wikimedia Foundation to offer free access to Wikipedia on mobile to its pan India prepaid customers.

Aircel prepaid customers who have an internet enabled mobile phone can access the Wikipedia mobile version (m.wikipedia.org) for free without incurring any data charges. Customers can access Wikipedia in default English language along with Indic languages including Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, Bengali, Gujarati and several more.

The free access is part of Wikimedia Foundation’s Wikipedia Zero program, which is intended to reduce barriers for accessing Wikipedia on mobile devices. Its done by partnering with telecom operators around the world to remove the data usage cost while accessing Wikipedia on mobile and thus helping more people to access Wikipedia for the first time.

Note that free Wikipedia access is only through the default mobile browser, accessing the m.wikipedia.org URL. Browsing charges will get apply as per tariff when accessed from any third part browsers like Opera, UC Browser. It’s a lifetime offer valid till the plan voucher subscribed by customer.
