DC Universe Online or DCUO by Sony Online Entertainment is destined to be free to play for PC and PS3 starting in late October. Sony Online Entertainment made the announcement yesterday. An FAQ is available for those curious about the change.
The game lets players become virtual heroes or villains in an online playground that took Sony more than five years and $50 million to build. Sony launched DC Universe Online in January as a subscription-based game that charged players $15 a month.
Three tiers of gameplay are coming to the MMORPG–free, premium, and legendary. Existing subscribers will automatically become premium users, and a special $9.99 per month for three months of legendary access is available.
