When disaster struck, one of the main issues that rise is the breakdown of communication networks. This becomes a major barrier for First Responders and Public Safety Agencies who can’t effectively coordinate the rescue operations.
To resolve this issue to a greater extended, govt-run telecom operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with domestic telecom equipment provider Vihaan Networks Limited (VNL) to launch ‘Relief 123’. It’s an integrated Disaster Response Solution designed to assist First Responders and Public Safety Agencies. The two signed the pact during the India Mobile Congress 2017.
Basically, it helps the rescue team to set up an emergency mobile network in areas hit by natural disaster. This will help them in effective coordination of rescue operations and offer help to trapped people.
“Given that our country is prone to natural disasters, the availability and quick deployment of comprehensive communications solutions will help disaster management agencies mount faster and more reliable search and rescue operations,” said Mr Anupam Shrivastava, the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of BSNL.
The solution will be designed and manufactured by VNL and backhaul network connectivity will be provided by BSNL. The Relief 123 service is based VNL’s ‘ResQMobil’ an integrated portable communication solution. It packs the required hardware into a portable transportable trailer-on-wheels. The hardware includes a portable mobile tower, 24-hour battery power backup and a solar panel for further power requirements.
