Yet again Govt owned telecom operator BSNL seems to be losing too much mobile subscribers. According to the latest Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) report as on 30th June, 2014 – BSNL lost around 2.14 million mobile subscribers in a month, whereas MTNL losses 30, 000 subscribers during the period. But on the same time private telecom operators gained the most out of the BSNL’s loss, as Vodafone India gained around 1.6 million new subscribers, whereas Telewings gained 1.4 million subscribers followed by Idea Cellular with 1.2 million subscribers.

According to report, the total wireless subscriber base increased from 910.16 million at the end of May, 2014 to 914.92 million at the end of June, 2014, registering a monthly growth of 0.52%. Bharti Airtel still rules the Indian telecom market with 22.87% market share followed by Vodafone India with 18.57% market share and Idea Cellular with 15.19% market share.

Mobile Number Portability requests increased from 121.47 million subscribers at the end of May, 2014 to 123.87 million at the end of June, 2014. In the month of June, 2014 alone 2.39 million requests have been made for MNP. Subscribers from Karnataka used the MNP service the most followed by Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh.

India got 68.83 million Broadband subscribers

Number of broadband subscribers in India increased from 65.33 Million at the end of May 2014 to 68.83 million at the end of June 2014 with monthly growth rate of 5.35%. The data include subscribers from normal wired connection, wireless subscribers using mobile devices and dongles, and other wireless connection including Wi-Fi, Wi-Max, Point-to-Point Radio & VSAT with a minimum downloading speed of 512Kbps.

India got 68.83 million Broadband subscribers
  • On Wired broadband service BSNL tops the chart with 9.98 million subscribers, followed by Bharti Airtel with 1.39 million subscribers and MTNL with 1.13 million subscribers.
  • On Wireless broadband service Bharti Airtel tops the chart with 13.38 million mobile internet users, followed by Vodafone India with 10.30 million subscribers and Idea Cellular with 8.78 million subscribers.
