It seems Govt owned telecom operators are facing very tough competition from the private telecom operators, as BSNL losses more than 1.4 million subscribers during the month of April, according to the latest Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) report as on 30th April, 2014. Another Govt owned telecom operator MTNL seems to be doing not so well, as it only added mere 12,666 new subscribers in the month.
According to report, the total wireless subscriber base in India which include GSM, CDMA and FWP subscribers increased from 904.51 million in March, 2014 to 907.44 million at the end of April, 2014. An addition of 2.93 million new subscribers with a monthly growth of 0.32%.
Mobile Number Portability requests increased from 117.01 million subscribers at the end of March, 2014 to 119.24 million subscribers at the end of April, 2014. In the month of April, 2014 alone 2.23 million requests have been made for MNP. Maximum number of MNP request have been received from Karnataka by around 13.5 million request, followed by Rajasthan with 12 million request and Andhra Pradesh with 11 million request.
Number of broadband subscribers increased from 60 million at the end of March 2014 to 61.74 million at the end of April 2014, an increase of 1.74 million subscribers. The data include subscribers from normal wired connection, wireless subscribers using mobile devices and dongles, and other wireless connection including Wi-Fi, Wi-Max, Point-to-Point Radio & VSAT with a minimum downloading speed of 512Kbps.
